Executive Pastor
Pastor Tammy is a dynamic speaker and prophetic voice. She has co-pastored the burgeoning City Church of New Orleans since 1993 alongside her beloved husband, Owen McManus, Jr.

I met my wife, Selam, originally from San Francisco but moved to New Orleans via a tennis scholarship at Xavier University, here at City Church in 2010. We were married in March 2013. We have one daughter, Ava Senai Gavion, born on August 22, 2017.
Salvation Experience:I received salvation in 2009 at the age of 24. I tried everything to find fulfillment in life. It seems like my life followed the pattern of the way God does it - allows you to hit rock bottom. I grew up in church but I did not have a relationship with Jesus. It was in that face to face experience with Jesus that truly changed my life and I haven’t looked back at my old life sense.

Salvation Experience:I don’t know the day I got saved. I got saved over time. My story is: I began to get turned on by Jesus. I was agnostic before I got saved. I did not believe in Jesus. I didn’t believe in Christianity. I was dating a girl while in college and she got radically saved and she sparked my curiosity about the reality of pursuing Jesus. When she got radically saved, it honestly baffled me because I couldn’t understand what had happened to her. To see her behavior and character change caused me to question if Jesus was real. From seeing her change, it led to Salvation journey. It was a journey for me to get saved. City Church is where I experienced deliverance. I experienced what it was like to walk in the power of God and be free from sin. There were addictions that I couldn’t shake on my own and when I got to City Church I experienced freedom.

Me - that’s me. My beautiful and fun loving wife. We meet in high school playing volleyball. I was in 10 grade and she was in 9th. We dated and broke up about three time and then we got married when we were 21 and 23. It was September 25,1999. So what did we do? We partied like it was 1999 and have ever since. She is the love of my life and my greatest friend. Ayden is our 6 year old son. It always feels like I am talking to a 10 year old. He is smart, kind and always wants to make people laugh. He is great and we love him so much.
Salvation Experience:I gave my heart to Jesus when I was a child in a chapel service. My parents took us to church as a kid and put us in Christian School. I do remember loving Jesus and asking him to come into my heart. When I got older, my parents no longer were in a church and I was no longer in a Christians school. My life at the time seemed hopeless. At the age of 14, I was sleeping in the living room and my brother came and told me that our grandfather passed away. That night as I laid on the sofa the Lord asked me. "If I would die where would I go?" I know, I allowed sin back in my life and I did not have a relationship with Jesus. That night, I talked to Jesus and asked him to forgive me of all my sins. I wanted to keep one area of my life but he told me I could not have him unless I gave him my whole heart. I wanted him more than the sin I was in. I asked him to come into my heart and save me. My life completely changed that night. I asked the Lord, where should I go to church? I knew if I was now a Christian I needed a home church. The Lord directed me to go to New Life Christian Center. That is the name of City Church before Katrina. It took me about 1 year from the time the Lord told me to go to the church till I walked through the doors. I walked to church as 15 year old for many years. The love I felt from God's people helped me open my heart to the only one Who could filled that emptiness in my heart.

Salvation Experience:When I was 17 years old, some friends attended a City Church Encounter Retreat (then City Cathedral) and shared with me how real the power of God was. Until then, I’d considered myself to be a Christian but there was no evidence in my life that Christ lived in me. I didn’t know much about the Bible, in fact, I had this strange thought that you couldn’t read the Bible. I remember praying this simple prayer, “God if your real, reveal yourself to me… If you do, I’ll serve you”. When I heard about the Encounter retreat (now Freedom Weekend) for some reason I determined to go without being asked. That 3-day weekend literally changed my life. What was one of the most profound or impactful moments that you’ve experienced in life?I was deeply impacted by my first family vacation to Washington D.C. with my wife and son. As we toured the capital, we visited the Martin Luther King Jr. Monument and the African American history museum which really spoke to our progress in light of current difficulties. I then began to realize that D.C. was the last city that my mom visited before she passed. That realization while reflecting on the history of our nation and being there with my first born child hit me with a deep sense of responsibility as a father, leader and role model for our generation. It showed me that we’ve come a long way but that we need more influencers like MLK and other great leaders who have gone before to rise up and make a difference in our world.
